Formed in February 2010 with just nine members, the voluntary group now has over 60 names on the mailing list. The Committee structure was formalised in February 2011, with the primary objectives of implementing the Management Plan recommendations, keeping records of wildlife on the site, securing grants and holding public awareness events.
About
The Friends of Chaddesden Wood operates within the Wild Derby partnership, which itself is part of Derby City Council and provides support to the group and an interface to Derby City Council Parks, who retain ultimate responsibility for the welfare of the site.
The group has already compiled reports on species of birds and bats to be found in or around the wood, invertebrates and amphibians found in the ponds and, of course, a detailed record of the differing types of trees and ground cover from the Management Plan. Friends of Chaddesden Wood also works in partnership with the Oakwood Neighbourhood Board to maintain and develop the wood as an important resource for the community, this has included funding of a new nature trail.
